The ERIC database is the world's largest source of education information. The database contains more than 1 million abstracts of education-related documents and journal articles. You can access the ERIC database through FirstSearch (a commercial vendor) available on the Library Homepage. ERIC updates monthly ensuring that the information you receive is timely and accurate.
Search the ERIC database to find education-related journal articles, research reports, curriculum and teaching guides, conference papers, books, and more.
You will retrieve citations and abstracts for education-related literature relevant to your search topic. There are two types of records in the ERIC database: ERIC documents (ED) and ERIC journal articles (EJ).
ERIC Documents
ERIC records with an “ED” accession number are annotations of research documents. Documents include theses, dissertations, conference reports, curriculum guides, lesson plans, etc. Over 107,000 full-text non-journal documents (issued 1993-2004) are available through the FirstSearch version of ERIC. See citation below.

Accessing pre-1993 ERIC documents on microfiche:
Most material before 1993 can be found in the Microfiche cabinets in the Lower Level. The microfiche are filed by ED number. They can be copied using the microfiche reader printers. There is a charge of 10 cents per page.
Some special cases –
Not all ERIC documents can be found online or on microfiche. Copyrighted books especially cannot be found this way. To determine if material is available in either form check at the bottom of the record under Availability. If it is not available it will read:
Availability: EDRS: Not Available from EDRS
In this case check the library’s catalog under the title of the book to see if Connelly Library owns it.
ERIC Journal articles
ERIC records with an "EJ " accession number are annotations of journal articles (See citation below). To find the actual article search the Connelly Library catalog under the Periodical Title to determine if the library subscribes to the periodical. If the library does not subscribe to the periodical use the Interlibrary Loan service to obtain a copy of the article.
