Minutes from February 26, 2002

 

J     Kristen announced that we made a profit of $134 from our Adopt a Valentine program.  There were many administrators that gave $10 and we sent thank you cards to them.

J     Teresa raised $42.87 in a collection at mass this Sunday in the chapel

J     AED, (the pre-health honors society) will be donating money to us.  They annually give some money to a charity and this year they have decided to give the money to us.

J     Committee chairs were announced:

-          Stefania Nolano will chair the Public Relations committee

-          Stefanie Tripician will chair the Public Awareness committee

J     Ideas for Fundraising


 

St Patrick’s Day

-          Sell “Jell-O shots”

-          Sell green blow pops

-          Sell Irish potatoes (we could take orders before hand and make them and deliver them later)

-          Make and sell sugar cookies

-          Raffle off a basket and get  someone to donate the prizes (possibly for Easter)

Other Projects

-          Have a game with the Service organizations on campus ie “The Weakest Link”

-          Sell scrubs campus wide (talk to your friends and see if they’d be interested in this

-          during the spring time have some kind of outdoor program

 

If you like any of these ideas or if you come up with any other ideas, start thinking of ways that we can implement them for St. Patrick’s day (the week we get back from break).  On our next meeting we will organize the set-up and delegate tasks.

 

J     Increasing the member population

-          advertising, perhaps in The Collegian, to other majors besides science, ie “Are you a computer major?…Well we need help creating a web page!”

-          we need to also aim at getting other faculty members involved

-          we are working on getting a feature story written on our organization for The Collegian

J     We need pictures of the different activities and events that we are working on for The Collegian, our newsletter, and the web site, so please bring cameras and take pictures

J     Summer internship opportunity

-          Operation Smile is now accepting applications although all the internships are not completely defined yet

-          One possible opportunity is for a summer long internship in Virginia.  The application is due April 28th and you need to submit a resume, recommendation, and a personal statement.  Contact Matt (Cathelm1@lasalle.edu) for further info.

J     Miscellaneous ideas

-          selling T-shirts and getting businesses to donate by putting an ad on the shirt

-          show a video clip of what OpSmile is all about at the movies that are shown in the Dan Rodden Theater on weekends

-          Public Relations committee posting flyers to advertise all our meetings
