The Earth image in the applet was taken by Apollo 17 astronauts as they traveled toward the Moon. The white patch at the bottom is Antarctica. Africa and the Arabian Peninsula are visible at the top of the image. The large island off the coast of Africa is the Malagasy Republic. Newton's Tower seems to have been built somewhere in the Middle East, perhaps on the site of the legendary Tower of Babel. The image was obtained from the NASA Observatorium image gallery.
